Podium Pathway Competitions:

Podium Pathway is designed for competitive skaters aiming to compete at the Provincial, National, or International level in Singles, Pairs, and Ice Dance.

Podium Pathway Levels:

  • Pre-Juvenile

  • Juvenile

  • Pre-Novice

  • Novice

  • Junior

  • Senior

These levels are stepping stones to prestigious opportunities such as the National Team, World, and Olympic Teams. Skaters who compete in Podium Pathway also take tests in Skate Canada's STARSkate program.

Eligibility: These events are limited by age and test requirements. Skaters who do not meet the requirements are unable to compete at the desired level.

Event Recognition: All events receive a ranked placement, with the top three skaters receiving medals.

Adult Skate Competitive:

Adult Skate offers the opportunity to compete at invitational, interclub, and international competitions.

Competition Categories:

  • Programs

  • Ice Dance

  • Pairs FreeSkate

  • Artistic

  • Showcase

  • Synchro

Event Recognition: All events receive a ranked placement, with the top three participants receiving medals.

SKATE CANADA COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS

 

STAR Skate Competitions:

STAR Skate offers skaters the opportunity to compete at invitational and interclub competitions.

Competition Categories:

  • Elements: STAR 1 - Gold

  • Programs: STAR 2 - Gold

  • Artistic: STAR 5, 7, 9, & Gold

  • Showcase: Level 1 - 4

  • Team Events: STAR 2 - Gold

  • Improv: Level 1 - 4

  • Ice Dance Pairs: STAR 2 - Diamond

  • Ice Dance Solo: STAR 2 - Gold

  • Pairs FreeSkate: STAR 3 & STAR 5

  • Synchro: STAR 3, 4, 6, 8, Gold

Event Structure:

  • These events are not limited by age, allowing skaters to move up through the levels at their own pace.

  • STAR 1-3 Single: Skaters receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze ribbon based on their performance.

  • STAR 4 - Gold Single: Skaters receive a ranked placement, with the top three receiving medals.

Participating in STAR Skate competitions provides skaters with valuable experience and recognition, helping them grow and excel in their skating journey. ⛸️✨

Competition Requirements

CanSkate Competitions:

CanSkate offers a variety of competition opportunities for all CanSkate levels (Stage 1 - 6).

Competition Categories:

  • Creative Improv

  • Element Event

  • Team Event

Event Structure: For the CanSkate Element event, coaches will assist skaters on the ice in the practice area. Skaters will perform skills on the performance circuit following a demonstrator.

Recognition: All stages receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze ribbon based on their performance.

Skates: Competitions can be performed in both hockey and figure skates.

What to do when arriving at competitions:

  • Warm-Up Gear: Sneakers for warm-up

  • Off-Ice Equipment: Jump rope, spinner, stretch band, roller, yoga mat, etc.

  • Spare Clothing: Spare tights/socks

  • Skating Accessories: Hockey tape, spare laces

  • Warm-Up Attire: Warm-up jacket, gloves

  • Performance Outfit: Skating dress or performance outfit (including a backup)

  • Music: Copy of music (on USB)

  • Hair Accessories: Hairspray, hair ties, scrunchies, bobby pins

  • Make-Up: Make-up essentials

  • Snacks and Hydration: Water and healthy snacks

  • Comfort Items: Blanket and comfy clothes

  • Medication: Inhaler, epi-pen, etc.

  • Helmet: Required for CanSkate participants

  • Positive Attitude: SMILE!! 😊

Arrival:
  • Arrive an hour before your event (as events can run ahead of schedule).

  • Find the registration desk and check-in.

  • Locate your dressing room and drop off bags. NEVER leave your skates unattended; bring them with you everywhere!

  • Find your coach, if they didn’t find you when registering. Wait around the check-in table or your dressing room for them.

Off-Ice Warm-Up/Preparation: Please note: You compete how you practice; the following exercises should be done before every practice when possible to maintain a consistent routine.
  • Start with stretches to loosen up.

  • Cardio to warm up and get the blood flowing.

    • Activities: Jogging, skipping, hops, grape vines, jump rope, plyo-lunge-jumps, etc.

  • Jump and spin warm-up.

  • Program walk-through.

  • Check the ice and determine where you start your program.

  • Perform a mental run-through of your program.

Final Preparations:
  • Get skates on ~15 minutes before scheduled warm-up time.

  • Make sure you’ve gone to the bathroom.
