Competition Overview: CanSkate competitions offer skaters the opportunity to experience competition at their chosen stage while also having the chance to watch STARSkate, Podium Pathway, and Adult events firsthand. There are various competition opportunities for all CanSkate levels (Stages 1 - 6), and these can be performed whether the skater is in hockey or figure skates. PowerSkaters are also welcome to participate in these events, with Stage 5 or 6 recommended.
Competition Categories:
- Creative Improv Event
- Overview: Skaters will listen to a piece of music twice in a designated room and once on the ice during warm-up. They will be kept in a soundproof room until it is their turn to perform.
- Coach Involvement: Coaches are allowed to minimally assist skaters during warm-up, but this is the skater's chance to show their artistic side.
- Element Event
- Overview: Coaches will assist skaters on the ice in the designated practice area while the skaters go through a circuit made of skills on the stage they are competing in.
- Performance: Skaters will perform these skills on the performance circuit following a demonstrator while being evaluated.
- Team Event
- Overview: Teams of 2-4 skaters will each have a designated skill(s) to perform from the selected stage.
- Performance: During the performance, skaters will stand near the judges, who will call out the skills to be performed. The individual skater will perform the skill before returning to the team.
- Coach Involvement: Coaches will assist skaters during warm-up.
Fees:
- Event Fee: Each event (Elements, Improv, Team) has a fee listed by Skate Canada.
Event Conclusion:
- At the end of each event, skaters will be asked to bow before leaving the ice.
- All stages receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze ribbon based on performance.
Helmets:
- Helmets are required on the ice unless the skater is competing in Stage 6.
Participating in CanSkate competitions is a wonderful way for skaters to showcase their skills, gain competition experience, and celebrate their achievements. ⛸️✨
