Adult Competitive:

Adult competitive skating is a great opportunity to extend the careers of skaters, continue their skating journey, and be able to compete in a sport that they are passionate about and to stay active for life. These sessions are designed to accommodate skaters who still wish to compete or test their skills, providing them with the necessary support and training to achieve their goals.

Program Highlights:

  • Private Lessons: Adult skaters receive one-on-one instruction during regular STAR Skate sessions, allowing for personalized coaching and focused skill development.

  • Skill Advancement: Whether aiming for competition or personal milestones, skaters work on refining their techniques, learning new elements, and enhancing their performance artistry.

  • Testing Opportunities: The program includes opportunities for skaters to test their skills at various  STAR levels, offering a structured pathway for progression and achievement.

  • Community and Support: Skaters become part of a supportive community that encourages continuous improvement and celebrates each other's successes.

  • Qualified Instructors: Lessons are taught by NCCP-certified coaches who provide personalized feedback and tailored guidance to help each skater achieve their best.

Fees:

  • Ice Fees: Included in the program registration fee

  • Coaching Fees: Sent separately to the skater by the coach. Fees are typically sent monthly unless negotiated otherwise. Coaching fees vary per coach. Please see our "Meet our Coaches" page to contact ESPSC's coaches about lesson availability.

  • Assessment Fees: STAR assessment fee is paid at the time of testing for every assessment. For those on STAR 6 - Gold assessments, assessment days are held separately from normal skating days and will include additional costs.

  • Competition Fees: Each event (Programs, Elements, Improv, Team, etc.) has a fee listed by Skate Canada. Additionally, there is a coaching fee for the time spent with the skater at the event, which varies per coach. This fee can include charges for time, mileage, hotels, meals, etc., depending on what the coach charges for.

This program provides a nurturing environment for adult skaters to continue pursuing their passion, with the guidance and resources they need to excel in figure skating. ⛸️✨

Off Ice Training

To achieve peak performance on the ice, it is essential for adult skaters to incorporate off-ice training into their routines. Coaches may assign specific exercises to be performed weekly and before on-ice sessions. These exercises are designed to enhance overall performance, build strength, and improve flexibility.

Engaging in off-ice warm-ups before practices is highly recommended. These warm-ups are vital for preparing the body, increasing blood flow to muscles, and reducing the risk of injury. A proper warm-up routine ensures that skaters are physically ready for the rigorous demands of on-ice training. Additionally, performing off-ice warm-ups before competitions is crucial, as it helps skaters replicate their practice performance during events.

Focus Areas for Off-Ice Training:

  • Stretching/Flexibility: Enhances range of motion and prevents injuries
  • Off-Ice Jumps: Improves jump technique and strength
  • Off-Ice Spins: Using a spinner off-ice improves spin technique, balance, and control
  • Strength Training (Body): Builds overall muscle strength and endurance
  • Strength Training (Core): Strengthens the core muscles, which are essential for balance and stability
  • Agility/Plyometrics: Increases agility, speed, and explosive power
  • Expression/Dance: Enhances artistic expression and performance quality on the ice

ESPSC currently does not have off-ice programs running alongside the fall/winter and spring sessions but offers one-hour long sessions during the summer program. To achieve maximum success with cross-training and limit injuries, please discuss off-ice training exercises or classes with your coach. Proper warm-up and cool-down routines, as well as injury prevention techniques, should also be part of your off-ice training plan.
